Many assisted living facilities also have a seperate building, wing, or hall devoted to their memory care unit which is for residents with Alzheimer’s or dementia. These residents generally need more supervision as many have the desire to wander. The facilities are secured, meaning the staff have to push a code to enter and leave each secured door without an alarm going off, keeping your loved one safe. A “Residential facility which provides care to persons with Alzheimer’s disease” means a residential facility that provides care and protective supervision for persons with Alzheimer’s disease or a related disease, including, without limitation, senior dementia, organic brain syndrome or other cognitive impairments. These facilities generally cost more money as they require a lot of care, depending on where your located and the quality of care the price can range from $2000-$8000.
The staff are all experienced with dealing with Alzheimers and Dementia, the members of the staff of the facility shall develop a program of activities that promotes the mental and physical enhancement of the residents. Usually facilities will have their employees setup:
- Activities to enhance the gross motor skills of the residents
- Social activities
- Activities to enhance the sensory abilities of the residents
- Outdoor activities
Many states by law actually require these. Along with some sort of outside area that is fenced off. All exits are secured and alarmed.
