Residential Board & Care Homes
Residential Board and Care Homes are now generally referred to simply as care homes; Nursing homes are now called care homes with nursing.
A care home is a residential setting where a number of elderly people live, either in a single room, a shared room, or a two bedroom setting. A home registered as a care home will provide personal care only, or what many insurance companies refer to as “custodial care”. So they will help with bathing, dressing, grooming, meal preparation, medication management, shower assistance, etc. Some care homes areĀ registered to meetĀ a specific care need, for example dementia or terminal illness.
These homes are great because they have a more “homey” feel to them. The people that run them really care about what they do, and don’t have a corporate feel to them at all. There are many different kinds scattered in many different communities. When working with your coordinator be sure to mention whether or not you want shopping, parks, restaurants, etc near the home.
These Residential Board and Care Homes range from $1300-5000 per month depending on the not only what part of the country but also what area of town they are located and the types of care that are required by the senior.
